What is a water softener?

A water softener is a device designed to treat hard water by eliminating minerals like calcium and magnesium ions. Hard water has elevated levels of these minerals, which can lead to several problems, including scale buildup in pipes and appliances, soap scum on surfaces, and decreased efficiency of water heaters and other appliances.

How do they work?

Water softeners generally operate using a method known as ion exchange. In this process, calcium and magnesium ions in the water are swapped for sodium or potassium ions. This exchange takes place in a tank filled with resin beads that capture the calcium and magnesium ions while releasing sodium or potassium ions back into the water.

Do I need one in my home  or business ?

If you have hard water, it can lead to several issues in your home or business. The minerals in hard water can build up and create scale in your appliances, which decreases their efficiency. You might notice that your dishware appears cloudy, your laundry doesn’t come out clean even with enough detergent, and soap scum can accumulate in your kitchen and bathroom. Furthermore, as these deposits build up in your pipes, they can restrict water flow, potentially leading to expensive backups and repairs.
